About
Yin-Hsuan Chen is a Taiwanese artist raised in Mainland China, whose work explores a sense of Alienation. There is a long, complicated, and deeply controversial relationship between the two territories. Her photo series / narrative is a reaction to this history and never-ending political debate and where she stands at the crossroads.
Her work — comprised of photographs, videos, and installations—focuses on moments where the memory of “home” becomes contradictory. Using an abstract and conceptual style the photographs reveal something unsettling, poetic, and silent. It is an ongoing work in progress. During the pandemic she returned “home” to further investigate this meaningful and layered past between family and country.
“I know both lands will not accept my whole body and soul.”
Being an outsider allows her to have the ability to see truths. Her work is a voice for her complex political experience, it does not respond to advocate any radical solutions.
She is also a solo traveler, food lover, finding-my-peace-person, and she received a BFA Degree in Photography and Video at School of Visual Arts in New York. She’s available for editorial or commercial assignments.

Two of Me eM fo owT
2021
I am back
Home, I call it
it is an unfamiliar place
feeling my body and soul separated
where time and space lose their presence and meanings
.
Two of me are taking shape
.
Of the two of me
one lives in day time
one lives at night
they both have missions to complete
.
Two of me are taking shape
.
Of the two of me
one sees herself surrounded by the people like her
with the same color and language
but detached
.
the other one allows conflicts to happen
they are good conflicts that introduce her to a new experience
.
I can feel the fragility inside of me
but also feel the wonder of life emerging at the same time
